Write It Down & Make it Plain (part deux)
Hello Hello:) I am sitting here in vacation mode in the comfort of my own bed. There is candlelit lighting, India Arie singing, and nail polish drying on my toes. Ahh!! Anyways, I wanted to let you all know that I have been making steps towards completing my goals. Today I called one of the places that I had inquired about a job. The woman seemed like she was rushing off the phone, but I remembered what Melissa Dawn Johnson said about never taking no as an answer, and continued to talk my way into an interview at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon! Needless to say I let out a big "wooooo!!!!!". Hopefully by the end of the week I can cross off goal #1: Get a Job.
This afternoon I went out with two wise and dear friends to a Mexican restaurant. I remembered Goal #2: "Cut sweets out of my life during the week (weekends is OK)". I am happy to say that since it is Monday and not Saturday or Sunday I did not get ANY dessert:). I'm only boring you with this because I want to help anyone who is making goals and writing them down to see how you can start putting effort into goals immediately. Just ask God and he will take care of the funky little details. I even did some laundry and cleaned my room and the bathroom which was Goal # 6: "Keep my room clean". You don't even have to tell anyone what your goals are. This way there is less pressure. It is so crucial to make sure that we are contributing to not only others, but to ourselves in a positive way. In the words of my darling bestie Ashley McNeil "Make sure your not just existing, but living."....Bon Soir.

Write It Down & Make it Plain
Good Morning! I have not blogged in quite some time, but that is because I am focused on making my dream as a hairstylist reality in the near future. During family worship about 2 weeks ago, my father focused in on Habakkuk 2:2- "And the Lord answered me, and said write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run and readeth it." This verse is about making goals, writing it down, and sticking to it. How many times have you heard some motivational speaker say write down where you want to be financially in 6 months or where you want to be in your career in 5 years? When you write goals down it breathes life into it, and it is up to you to make the moves to keep it going. It doesn't matter how crazy your dream is if you have talent, passion and drive, you WILL be successful.
When I finally spoke out loud that I wanted to be a hairstylist, there was discouragement from some people. Not because they didn't love me, but because fear of the unknown will bring about caution from others. It is up to us to say thank you for that I'll take that into consideration, and KEEP ON GOING. Take time out of your day today and say, I am going to write down a 6 month plan for my future. Whether it be for school, work, relationships, health, etc. Just do it. Place this plan in an area where you will see it everyday, like your room. Pray over this list and ask God to give you the tools, the strength, the patience, and the drive to successfully complete the list. Here is mine:
- Get a job
- Start working out 5 days a week (Zumba!!)
- Cut sweets out of my life during the week (weekends is OK)
- Make only A's and B's in all of my classes, NO FAILING!!
- Finish reading the the Old Testament
- Keep my room clean
- Make sure that I continue to style hair and learn new techniques for all hair types.
Now you all know I am a big fan of all things Essence Magazine! When on the website I was looking through the Brand Me Minute Videos by Melissa Dawn Johnson. Melissa is a Global Branding and Personal Transformation Strategist who helps others achieve their goals. God directed me to this video, because she talks about writing things down!! This is too good. Enjoy this Brand Me Minute video from Essence.com, and remember WRITE IT DOWN & MAKE IT PLAIN!!! The video is posted below.

Date Diary from Essence.com

You all know I am a huge fan on all things Essence Magazine! Essence.com has started a Blind Date Diary for Relationship Editor Demetria L.Lucas, showing her on various blind dates with various men. Demetria always seemed like a cool individual to me, so I was thrilled to really see how she acts in real life! Watching the blind date I got two things:
#1- She seems really cool
#2- He was so not interested.
When you see the date, you'll see what I'm talking about. The date seemed to go fine on both ends, but he never called her back. His excuses were work related, but hello she has a lot going on too! I have to be honest and say that this date scares me. They both have amazing jobs, they're good looking, and have a lot in common. So why no second date? Maybe it could be a problem just within him, but I doubt it. He just wasn't feeling her. I always felt that having my own success and drive would attract men. I'm not saying that that is my reason for wanting success at all, but to see someone who is young, black, attractive, and successful not even be able to get a second date makes me even less excited to get older and look forward to finding my soul mate and creating a life together. Man, it rough out there:( I should just stop expecting and hoping and just let what happens happen. Here is the video below:

Girls are Like...Apples?

Good evening readers! Every time I look around, I see some beautiful guy with a really average girl. I'm not just talking about looks here either. I mean, she is just an all around no fuss, simple, plain, no flare, average girl. She has nothing really going on for her and to top it all off she's always a hoe!! It would make me wonder, do I need to be average and a hoe to get guys. But, I quickly snapped out of that thank God! I had to realize my worth, and know that I'm worth being pursued and waited for. I told myself that the guy I would want to be with will do all that it takes to finally be able to call someone as special as me, his girl. When I came across this story of "How Girls are Like Apples", I realized that my positive thinking was correct. I'm not crazy for believing what I believe. The story goes like this:
Girls are like apples...the best ones are at the top of the trees. The boys don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples that are on the ground that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples at the top think there is something wrong with them, when, in reality, they are amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along, the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree...
I am a big advocate for waiting till marriage. It is partially because these crazy boys don't care what "apples" they stick it in. Ladies, we need to set ourselves apart from the madness, and show ourselves to be different. Don't ever feel bad or strange doing the right thing. Good things come to those that wait. So let's make sure we are waiting and not chasing. Let us all try to be the "amazing apples".

Darling, your Hair is Lovely!

Happy Friday readers:) I am so in love with Solange's new hair. It's gorgeous!!! I thought Solange's style was a more eccentric Hollywood girl vibe, but I guess I'm wrong. I still see the eccentric, but now it's more of a Urban Outfitters, Free People type of vibe. I really love her hair in the picture to the right. Hopefully, with much faith, prayer and deep conditioning my hair will be the same:)If you want to view Solange's blog here is the url:http://mydamnblog.com/iblog/

Tracee Ellis Ross has the look I'm going for right now. I want to get a small curling iron so I can do that look of small ringlets all over my hair. I've done it before in pieces, but this time I want to do it on the majority of the hair. BTW, I put in a new weave in and used the same type of hair. I occasionally put conditioner in, and I sleep with a bonnet. Chillle, this hair is gonna last for months. I've had it in for 3 weeks and no change! I'll let you know how long this hair keeps up. This look here is almost exactly the look I want for the BET Honors in September. We'll see if I change my mind.

PYT of the Week;)
Ok so I gave you all more then enough time to simmer over Hal Linton. It is time for the new PYT of the Week: Sammie!!! Now, I really thought long and hard about this one here. When Sammie came out he was a little scrawny kid. But now he is gorgeous!! Sammie currently is promoting his mixtape set to release on June 22, 2010. That last time I remember enjoying Sammie's music, I wanted to be a Spice Girl. Clearly it's time for a comeback. However, it looks as though Sammie is taking the "Sex U Up" approach like Trey Songz. Hopefully he doesn't go overboard with it. In the meantime, let's enjoy this mesmerizing video of Sammie just being sexy. Enjoy!

Creatively Coiffed
As an up and coming hair stylist, I am of course interested in all things hair! I stumbled upon a few beautiful updo's involving braids that I found really creative and interesting. I always try to recreate certain looks with my own hair and my friend's hair as well. However, when I can't exactly recreate the hairstyle, I still come up with something fabulous(that's the beauty in trial and error people). As long as there is inspiration, something magnificent can be born.
Alicia Keys is rockin a really cute braided mohawk. I tried to do this with my own hair, but came up with something different. I really want to figure out how to do this style, so this is on my to-do list for the future.
Here is Tracee Ellis Ross with a beautiful braided do. This would be very easy to accessorize with a feathered pin or flower. Chic Chic Chic:)
Rachel Roy is a superb fashion designer who exudes elegance, intelligence and class. I'm truly falling in love with this woman lol. On her website she had a quote that pretty much summed up exactly how I feel:
Even if you can't recreate these looks for yourself, try to discover the possibilities. Let your attempts lead you to another fabulous destination.

"My biggest influences are strong creative women, that chart their own path, lead their own lives and drive the course of history."She is just charming:) Moving on, here she is with a less formal display of braids. Both hairstyles can be dressed up or dressed down. Since I don't have my ears pierced, the earring option isn't how I would accessorize. However, decorative headbands and hairpins is a great way to make your chic hairdo make even more of a statement.

Bold and Beautiful!
Good Morning everyone!! I am so excited for summer and all it has to offer me with bright color palettes. I love prints, and summer is the perfect season for bold statements with color. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I love dresses, I barely own a pair of jeans. Bold dresses is a way to keep things simple, but still make a statement.
Now I'm not a huge fan of Solange's music, but lately she has been looking really cute with her dresses. Here she is at an event with her curly fro and bright printed strapless dress by Boxing Kitten.
Designer Tracy Reese is shown here in a bright cute bold look.
Model Tolula Adeyemi is shown here with a really fun sundress. I'm really getting into V-Neck maxi dresses. It shows some clevage but, nothing else. I always try to stick to a rule when going sexy. Less is more. If your showing chest, no leg. If your showing leg, no chest. Just something all young ladies should know.
Lead singer of the Noisettes Shingai Shoniwa is known for her bold fashion statements. She follows no rules (especially the "less is more" rule), and follows the beat of her own drum. However that is OK, because she does it fabulously(also cause she's grown). I'm currently trying to recreate the look with the white pants and black tank. The part I love the most is the elaborate necklace. I'm not big on jewelry, but I am looking for something similar with more color.

I Want to Learn How to Scat!!
I was watching an old video of Chrisette Michele on BET's Rising Icons and part of the segment she starts to scat. I absolutly adore scatting!! Whenever I tried in the past I just sound like I'm speaking a different language. She just does it so effortlessly and that's how I plan to be. Even though I tell people I don't want to be a singer, I still want to be able to do amazing things with my voice. I googled how to scat, and they gave me simple but good advice. Just jump into it. So I am going to start listening to music and jump into it. Hopefully I will be able to do a video similar to the one below. I will have differnt types of scats for different types of moods. Soon and very soon people, soon and very soon. Here is Chrisette Michele just showin' off!!!

More Amoy!!
Good Afternoon:) Do you remember when I mentioned how Amoy Couture is my inspiration a few blog posts ago? Well, I just saw a video of her on Essence.com explaining how she got her start and the services provided at Amoy Couture Hair Salon. I love this woman because she reminds me of what I'm going to possibly be doing in the future:) Here is the video from Essence.com
The Joy of Fellowship!

Good Morning bloggers! My body is so sore from playing yesterday. Miracle Temple SDA Church had a Party in the Parking Lot and it was soo much fun. We played hopscotch, double-dutch, four square, jacks, racing contest, dodge ball(which I came in 2ND), and ate lots of DELICIOUS food. It was nice to have not only people from church there but families from the community there as well. And everybody including parents were one-hundred percent involved! Midway through the event it started to rain, but everyone was having so much fun we kept playing! Since this is somewhat a new church for me it was nice to get to know people outside of the sabbath and just have fun. Here are some pictures from the event!

South Carolina Livin'
I am currently hearing the waves crash against the sand as I'm writing this blog. I am just too relaxed right now. We are spending the night in a spot over the beach and this is just the mellow vacation I needed. Anywhoo!! We went shopping today and I am blown away. Jessica Simpson never ceases to amaze me with her style.
I never paid close attention to her style until "The Newlyweds". She always stays current and but never over does it. Her shoe line is really out of this world, and I intend to buy everything I can from it. I believe the success from her line comes from the price. Everything is extremely reasonable and it appeals to the masses not the elite wealthy.

Another company that has really made me smile over the past couple of weeks is Wet Seal. They have the best things for cheap. I got these flyyy expensive looking aviator sunglasses today for just $3.00 and another for free. They also have beautiful dresses for $10 each and sales on sandals and dresses everywhere. Ross is another place that I've slept on for a few years. Growing up my mother took us to Ross for all of our clothes shopping. I got so sick of it that when I got old enough to go shopping on my own I never went. Now I am back and in full effect. I found sandals for $7.00 and dresses for $10. They actually have brand name designer bags for incredible prices. These places are definitely going to be the new place for me to shop. Since I have lost weight my clothes are fitting soo much better. It's amazing what THIRTY POUNDS will do to you haha. Good night readers I'm signing out to enjoy my vacation time:) Peace!

Speak it into Existence Honey!!!
My sister shared this video with me of a young girl telling herself positive things in the mirror! I hope she never loses this awesome positive spirit! Just a little positivity after that last post:)
Hey! My Daddy is a Black Man!!!

Hello all!!!! I am writing to you from South Carolina:) I just got in tonight and had a burden on my heart. Bill Maher expressed how Obama isn't living up to the name of a real black president. His lack of aggression in fixing the BP Oil Spill, contradicted the image of the stereotypical aggressive black man. He stated, "I thought when we elected a black president, we were going to get a black president. You know, this [BP oil spill] is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt where you can see the gun in his pants. That's -- (in black man voice) we've got a 'motherfu**ing problem here?' Shoot somebody in the foot." Looks like he shot himself in the foot with this one. So a black man is someone who carries a gun and uses profanity when he has a problem? No no no no no!!! Call me sensitive, but when Maher made those comments he was talking about all the men in my family. He was talking about every black man in America. I know that black men in America have a lot of growing to do, but to make a generalized statement about their behavior crossed the line. And then to direct that stereotype solely to the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA?!?!?!? Not Cool...The video is shown below.

Cinna-Bun Twist!!
So I plan on having my real hair out for a few more days, and in these last few days I'm trying all different hairstyles. Here is the cinna-bun twist. I did the usual cinna-bun, but instead of just tucking the hair back I loosely twisted it then tucked the hair away. This is a good style for a formal event!
TheGoldenSparkle.blogspot.com showed me how to do it. Her hair however is not twisted in the bun.
Check out her TheGlodenSparkle.blogspot.com for some more tips and how-to's for natural hair. I did not forget about rollersetting my hair either!! I will do it before the end of the week PROMISE!!Peace:)

Hair Update!
So I currently do not have the full weave in my hair, but the Indie Afro Curl was phenomenal and I recommend it to anyone with a curly hair texture. The hair lasted for about a month and a half. It would've lasted a lot longer if I had slept with a bonnet. But I did alot of things with it that you would regularly do with natural hair like a two strand twist out. Which involves twisting the hair in individual twist and taking it out after a few hours. Here is a picture of my end result.
Also after a few weeks the hair would get tangled so I would brush the hair with a wide brush while it was wet and put conditioner and hairspray in it. I do not recommend putting hairspray in this hair because it causes matting and dryness when it gets hard. The curl started to loosen also because I was combing through it every day. However, the end result still looked natural and pretty so here is a picture of how it would turn out.

Right now I am waiting to put another weave in and just playing around with my hair. My hair is natural so I decided to do a curly fro by roller setting my hair. I will do another post about that, but I love the look it gives me and my hair. Untill then it's off to class for me!!!! Peace:)

Black Hair in America by Jessica R. Johnson

Ok so I was recently tagged in a video on facebook titled Black Hair in America. I watched it and I love it! The creator of this video is pictures above, Jessica R. Johnson who is a student at Berkleee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. I love black hair stories because they are never ending, evolving, and unique. Here Jessica shows her own journey to love her hair, and America's struggle in accepting it. Here is the link to Black Hair in America from Jessica R. Johnson...Enjoy:)Facebook | Videos Posted by Jessica R Johnson: Black Hair in America [HQ]
