A Little This and a Little That

Ok so this post is a little scatter brained, but I wanted to share a few things.

First off let's start with the fact that I did my first men's cut today!!

I blew out my hair today and I was wondering what to do with it.

 After some thought, I decided I'm going to try something like this!

Recently I decided to  get back on track health wise, and I lost 8 pounds!! Woohoo! After seeing this picture of Jordin Sparks I just want to run on the treadmill even harder.

Hair Jewelry

We added a gold chain into Martrelle's hair and it turned out to be so cute!

It may look hard, but all we did was take a gold chain and bobby pinned it into her hair. I'm going to try it with other chains and pins next.

Ombre Hair

I'm so excited about my new hair color! I wanted to achieve ombre hair color and I finally have it.

I used hair color from Hot Topic called Amplified in Vampire Red. I have had the color in for 3 days now and the color has not faded whatsoever. Hair color show up differently depending on the lighting so here are some different shots.

At first I thought this color might be too red, but the more I look at it the more I absolutely love it! I want to play with other colors but I really love this and will probably rock this for a little while.

Rockstar Chic

Pictured below is Jennifer! I wanted to give her a new look, so I just worked my magic and this is what we ended up with.

A simple cut turned her into a chic superstar! Go Jen!!

Wanding....

I made some of my curls a little tighter today by loosely using a curling wand with random small pieces of hair. I looooved it!! I also recently got my hair colored using the ombre technique. However, the color is a little too subtle to show up in pictures.

Categories of Weavers: Which one are YOU?

Wearing a weave can be tricky, but hopefully I can give a few tips and guidelines to follow when thinking about adding to your hair. There are three categories of Weavers; Newbies, Dabblers, and Veterans. This has a lot to do with the type of hair you purchase, and how you maintain your hair. Which one are you?

Newbies: One who have never worn a weave before.

When a Newbie asks me "What type of hair should I get?" It can be a tricky question. I know the quality you will want out of your hair, but since you have never spent money on extensions you will be shocked to see that it could get up in the hundreds. Usually Newbies want to spend $100 or less on their hair extensions. The brand I suggest for Newbies is Dreamweaver by Model Model. This brand has straight, wavy, curly and kinky hair for a very reasonable price. Until you wear a weave you won't understand why the good quality hair comes at such a high price. You also get a feel for how your hair will blend with weave, and the the importance of getting it installed correctly. Since blending with curly hair, can sometimes be a task, I usually recommend straight hair for a Newbie.

Dabbler: One who wears weave sporadically, but never back to back.

A Dabbler will spend a little more money on hair than a Newbie. Dabblers usually spend about $200 or less on hair. They understand what they want out of their hair, and know how to keep the integrity of  hair while wearing a weave. Dabblers also could be people who have have a mix of good and bad experiences with weaves and still looking for that perfect hair stylist to put it in or the right products/tools to use. I would recommend Virgin hair to most Dabblers like Indianhair.net and Juju Hair Company.

Veterans: One who will most likely always have extensions in. Usually you don't know Veterans, real length of hair, because you haven't seen it in years!

Veterans love weaves! They love the versatility and instant gratification you get from adding some length, volume, color etc. There are a lot of Veterans who don't have healthy locks, because they are neglecting their real hair. When you wear weaves back to back it can put a serious toll on your real strands. Your hair needs to relax and breathe after being locked away for so many weeks. Extensions that I would recommend for a Veteran would be from Virgincurl. The hair is exactly what any Veteran would love to have in their hair.

Tips for Veterans:

• Don't keep your sew-in weaves for longer than 2 months.
• Get a conditioning, protein, or moisture treatment in between weaves.
• Trim your hair in between weaves (4-6 weeks)
• Wash your hair once a week.

Tips for all weavers: Use Coconut oil on your scalp and hair while installing your hair. It is lightweight and will prevent your scalp from having those terrible itches! No patting of the weave in public ladies!

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Hey Everyone! I am happy to say that after 1 month and 10 days, I have put my weave back in my hair! I have enjoyed wearing my hair out, but it was time to put it away!!! I have started working out again, so the need for a protective style is huge! No matter what anybody says, once you become a true Weaveista, there is no turning back! I will wear weaves for the rest of my life, and who doesn't like it can pucker up and kiss it!
